Fridge Water Dispenser Not Working
Is your fridge water dispenser not working? There are a few possible reasons for this. Check out the top 6 most common reasons and how to solve them below. They are all relatively cheap and don’t require too much experience with fridge repairs in order to do them.
Why is My Fridge Water Dispenser Not Working?
1. Water tube in the fridge door is frozen.
If your fridge water dispenser is not working, the water tube may be frozen. To check for this, find the beginning of the tube on the door. Disconnect it and blow into it. If air passes through then this is not the problem. If the air doesn’t pass through, let it thaw out.
2. Low water pressure.
If the water pressure is too low, the water dispenser will not function properly. The water inlet valve requires a minimum of 20 psi to function properly.
3. Water inlet valve is not working.
If the water pressure is good, but the water dispenser is still not working, the water inlet valve may be to blame. When you press the dispenser for water do you hear the water valve activating? If it doesn’t check the connections. if the connections are good, you may need to replace it.
4. The water filter is clogged.
How long has it been since you changed your water filter? Check the label on the water filter. Many will have recommended usage. If your fridge water dispenser not working and you haven’t replaced your water filter in a long time, this may be the problem.
5. The door switch is not working.
The door switch performs two main functions. It turns on and off the light in the fridge and tells the fridge if the door is closed or not. If it is not working properly, the dispenser will not turn on. To check it, use a multimeter to check for continuity.
6. The dispenser control board is not working.
If your entire dispenser system is failing and not just your fridge water dispenser, the problem may be the dispenser control board. If only the dispenser is failing, it is unlikely to be the control board. It is much more common for the whole dispenser system to fail if it is a control board problem.
