What Best Fridge Review, its analytics and Cloudflare, which serves the site, record when you read it, and who else is involved.
Best Fridge Review is a set of plain web pages. It has no accounts, no comments, no newsletter and no ads, and its one script counts visits without cookies. We set no cookies of our own; Cloudflare’s security features may set cookies that are strictly necessary to protect the site, such as __cf_bm, which helps tell people from bots.
When you visit
The site is served by Cloudflare. Cloudflare processes a log of each request, including your IP address, your browser’s user agent and the address of the page you request, to deliver the page and to protect the site from abuse. Through Cloudflare we can see traffic statistics, such as requests per page and per country, and for up to 30 days we can look up details of individual requests, including the IP address, user agent and page. We use them to keep the site working, for example to find broken links and abusive traffic. Cloudflare’s own handling of this data is described in its privacy policy.
Visit statistics
We count visits with Umami, open-source analytics that we run on our own server; no analytics company receives the data. A small script, loaded from stats.bestfridgereview.com, reports each page you view: its address and title, the page or site that sent you, your screen size and browser language, and how quickly the page loaded. When you follow a link to another site, it reports that site’s name.
To report it, your browser connects through Cloudflare to our server, which sees your IP address and browser user agent. From them Umami records your country, region and city, and your browser, operating system and type of device. It doesn’t store your IP address. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. To count visitors, it combines your IP address and user agent with a secret key and the current month into an identifier, so the same browser counts as one visitor within a month, as long as its IP address stays the same, and as a new one the next. The identifier can’t be turned back into your IP address or user agent, but anyone with the key and your IP address and user agent could work out the same identifier again. We keep these statistics for 25 months, long enough to compare a year with the year before; anything older is deleted automatically every day.
We use these statistics only to see which pages people read and which need work. We don’t sell or share them, and don’t use them for advertising. If you don’t want your visits counted, block the script or turn off JavaScript: nothing is reported and every page works the same.
Embedded videos
Some repair guides embed a YouTube video. These use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) and load only when you scroll near them. Once loaded, the video player is run by Google under Google’s privacy policy.
When you email us
Email to our address is forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing to a Gmail inbox, so it is also stored by Google under Google’s privacy policy. We use your address and message only to reply and to improve the page you wrote about. We don’t add you to any list, and we don’t share your message.
Links to other sites
Pages link to manufacturers, repair sources and other sites. Their privacy practices are their own.
Changes
If the site starts collecting anything more, for example through ads, this page will say so before it happens.
